Various concerns arise once in the process of divorce in Thailand, as this will not be limited among the couple themselves but to their children as well. Child support has always been one of the main issues that couples must pay attention to as child support is required under Thai law. This issue should be arranged and resolved before the divorce been granted.
Guidelines for Child Support
There will be factors to consider on the amount of child support to be paid:
- – Age of child means the longer child support has to be paid as parents are obligated to support their child until they reach legal age;
- – Health of child if and only if with special health conditions, sufficient and larger amount of financial support will be required;
- – Child’s way of life, standard of living must be offered and provided;
- – Other necessities of child which includes for those who are mentally-challenged and require special form of education
There are also factors to determine among the parents that must pay for child support. The court may also determine and able to decide for both in providing child support.

- · Age of the parent
- · Future financial capability of the parent in terms of income, education and work experience shall be put into consideration
- · Parent’s health condition or status
- · Other important issues, including previous and future responsibilities on finances for the parent
The settlement on child support can be arranged and drafted in the Thailand divorce agreement if it is mutually agreed upon. And last resort will be the process done in court for unsettled issues and agreements.
